Crooked Cakes!

We love crooked cakes!

This was the first crooked cake we ever constructed, for a wedding in Napa, CA at Chardonnay Golf Course.  Assembled in 2 pieces, the bottom half, and top half were each assembled ahead of delivery.  Top tier was foe, grapes were non-edible, and flowers were real.

VINTAGE FESTIVAL 2013

Inspired by our first Crooked Cake, we won best table with this one as our centerpiece.

Looking forward to next year!

Wedding at Nicholson Ranch Winery in Sonoma, September 2012

I really love how this one turned-out, and separated tiers aren't done as much anymore, but with the beauty of the venue I was really glad they went with a tall cake.  Tiers were 6"/8"/10"rounds & a 12" square.  They also had a full dessert bar in a separate area.

Alice in Wonderland

Fondant Artistry
This is the most detail intensive cake I have ever done, using fondant accents. So much fun!
I've always loved The Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and Alice. The White Rabbit was drawn-on with frosting. If you look closely, you can see "bread & butterflies", teapots & cups stacked on top of each other, "this way & that way" signs.
You cannot tell in this picture, but most flowers had "Disco Dust" which made them sparkle as if they were covered in glitter. The Disco Dust was sprinkled on surfaces as well, to give the cake as much sparkle as possible.
This style of cake is $6.00 per serving, and it's best to order at least 1 month in advance.

Happy Bee-Day!

Small tiered cakes are fun!
These little 2 tiered cakes can be personalized for any theme. This was a 6" top tier, and 8" bottom tier, serving 28. I think it would be really cute even smaller.
I love the simplicity of this one. The ribbon and flowers were made of fondant. The bee was drawn-on with frosting.

Thanksgiving Turkey Cookies

Turkey Cookies!

I made these Decorated Sugar Cookies for my kids. They were made using a hand cookie cutter, designed after the childrens' craft in

school. The royal icing was just poured for the bodies when I took this picture.

I made the larger hand-turkey cookies for my own guests on Thanksgiving Day, they were a fun addition to the dessert table.

Next year, I hope to make another style of turkey, more realistic & elegant... yes, a turkey can be elegant!

Pig in Pearls

This cake was for a group of friends visiting Sonoma for their 50th Birthdays. I loved the idea, and they called themselves "Pigs in Pearls", so one member of the group ordered this cake as a surprise.

I think she's a very elegant piggy =)

I carved her completely with cake (no rice krispies or fondant). Her pearls, eyes, earrings, flower on head, purse and hooves were made with fondant. Otherwise she is covered with frosting. The birthday message banner is also fondant, and an edible food writing pen used for the message (a new favorite tool!)
